So I had to take my car off the road, a 2001 ford Taurus. The reason being, well every thing. it wont pass inspection, sick of a car with no heat/cold air, no power steering and with the broken rear sway bar it felt very unstable. I'm glad it's gone. How ever as shitty as it was I need transportation. Now I make a decent wage but man I'm up to my balls in debt and realistically wont be ready for a payment till fall when I should be good and clear. In the mean time I have a laughable amount of liquid cash to spend. I have two choices from which to choose right now:

First is a Baby blue 1995 Grand Marque. the car runs well for it's age. only has factory installed rear wheel well rust. working ac and all the sort. But it does have 180k. I know, I know panthers run high in the mileage range. regardless this worries me a bit. how ever bottom line is I know who has owned it and what he's done to it. it'll last for a while yet. Also price is $1000

Second choice is a black on black 2004 Cadillac SLS. I love this car, so much it would be my 3rd 5th gen and 4th SLS and 5th caddy in total. I know it can be a money pit, I know they have issues. But being an 04 most of the major ones, like that damned CVRSS suspension and head gasket issues have been corrected. Also this is a single owner car, rust free and dealer maintained. Also it has only 75k on the clock. this car is also equipped with hand controls as the driver is wheel chair bound. which also means since he puts his cair in the front, some minor dings on the seats. I can deal no rips or nothing. Price is not yet offered up but it's feeling like 3500 or less.

While I would be happy with either I can tell you which I want more, the SLS of course. which I would probably be more than happy to drive for a while and forgo jumping on the payment plan in the fall for something new. How ever it does have potential for completely preventing my ability to escape it. while the pather is cheap(er) and wouldn't take as much as a hit upfront leaving more wiggle room if i need to bail out of it sooner in the event of a total failure or something. Panthers are great but I got a hard on for the northstar and the SLS in general.

thoughts?

Grand Marque. Hoon the shit out of it and have the time of your life and when it dies in a few month you still have 2500 for another car

Gotta get that Cadillac. You've owned them before so you know what's likely to fuck up.

see that's part of my thinking! It's cheap, RWD and V8. Fairly bullet proof and could be potentially fun for a summer. Can't really hoon the SLS unless massive front wheel burn outs is your thing, which i'm not into, also a great way to get banned from military bases (long story). I'm also kind of rusty on my wrenching skills so this car would be a great way to freshen up on them. where as the caddy, no soo much. thats a cash to fix sort of car :/ but then again, I do enjoy them!

Saturn S series. They have a few well known, but easily solved problems, can be picked up for 500-1000, get excellent mileage, and, provided you get the twin cam, have decent acceleration.

TL:DR too drunk to read your whole post

exactly, half my thinking is I know the owner does regular maintenance. it sounds great and runs great. so why not another?? but then the horror of the past ones return. My 96 CVRSS suspension bit the dust. sold car as replacement was around 800 a corner. 98, blew a head gasket: 5k fix. 2000; well that was wrecked by a reckless teen who though his daddies ram super crew was a sports car. 2002 was traded in on my 2005 STS, which was later sold because I lived and worked less than a mile away and had a beater ranger that was good enough and didn't have payments and I had the urge to pay off student loans. glad I did but miss that car.

haha. choose one: 94 grand marque with 180k for $1000 or 2004 Cadillac SLS with about 75k for about $3500

Just get the Cadillac, because wonderful V8 powered boat. Especially if the CVRSS suspension has been remedied.

This is not even a contest. You might like the SLS better, but you need to buy the panther. Easy to get parts, easy to fix, cheaper, etc. Buy the panther, drive it into the ground and by then you'll be out of your balls-deep-in-depth issue and have a down payment saved for something nicer.

The SLS will break your soul with repair bills.
